- Screening for and Promotions of Health-Related Quality of Life in Children & Adolescents - a European Public Health Perspective
The KIDSCREEN project is funded by the European Commission within the Fifth Framework Programme (FP5). The project is part of the Quality of Life and Management of Living Resources programme, which is one of the seven specific programmes of the FP5. The programme is built around six specific key actions and generic activities. The KIDSCREEN project co-operates with the the DISABKIDS project, which is also funded by the European Commission.
The project aims at a co-operative European development of a standardised screening instrument for children's quality of life which will be used in representative national and European health surveys. It also aims to identify children at risk, in terms of their subjective health, and to suggest appropriate early interventions by including the instrument in health services research and health reporting.

- Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC)
HBSC is a survey conducted every four years in a growing number of countries according to the same protocol and using the same international standard questionnaire. The study was initiated in 1982 by researchers from England, Finland and Norway. Shortly thereafter, the project was adopted by the World Health Organisation for Europe as a WHO Collaborative Study. The first round of data collection took place in these three countries and Austria in the 1983/84 school year and subsequent surveys have taken place in 1985/86, 1989/90, 1993/94 and in 1997/98.

- DISABKIDS
is a European project which aims at enhancing the quality of life and the independence of children with chronic health conditions and their families. Central to this pursuit is the development of a set of health related quality of life (HRQoL) questionnaires that are standardised for the whole of Europe. These new instruments will assess quality of life from the child's perspective in terms of their physical, mental and social well being.
